Kneehigh Nursery - Kneehigh In The Farm

Talking about how children grow up and what happens to them locally.

The children came to the exhibition with parents and practitioners. The responses of the adults have been put onto the encounter splat, "Kneehigh best moments". The children are delighted with the experiences they are having in the farm, and the colour box.

Talking about ourselves, our community and the experiences we share as a group.

The footage in the farm is attached to both stories. The adults are very evident in the activities, but somehow they are not intrusive. They join in and "go with" what the children are doing. The children pick up on what they say. "There you are Patrick, take it away!" after the wheelbarrow is loaded, is echoed by the a child and then later another child says "Amy, you can take it away." Even with the sweeping the adult involvement does not seem to frustrate or inhibit the children. They enjoy the experiences together, as in the colour box. "It was good fun for me, let alone the children!"

Usng our imagingation to invent new proposals for life locally.

The adults' commentary on the encounter story is positive, but it is more than that - it is enthusiastic and excited. It seems that some of it is from parents and practitioners who went to Our New School and some could possibly be from parents who did not go but whose children have shared their experiences when they got home as in "My child said he had a great time, kept talking about the dark, and said he was cooking lots too."

Acting on the world to realise our shared proposals.

It seems that Kneehigh is a community where children and adults enjoy each other's company. It is also a community which reflects on shared experiences as on the encounter story.

Reflecting on our ideas and the effects of our actions.

It would be good for the Kneehigh community to consider together if there were ways in which they could plan experiences which offer the space and the opportunity which they talk about so enthusiastically in the encounter story - experiences which are "more than expected."

Building on these conscious reflections to decide our next steps.

We would like to hear your response to this proposal.
