Enabling Achievement: Parents make it happen

Parents in Avonmouth have worked with Big Wide Talk since 2001. They have taken part in numerous exhibitions, summer meetings and other challenges. They have derived huge enjoyment and a sense of shared achievement from this work. By the early part of 2007, a group of parents were keen to work with us to help produce an exhibition in Bristol. In September 2007 Big Wide Talk and Avonmouth parents put on 'Looking Out Looking In'. The exhibition ran for two weeks.

Looking Out Looking In exhibition:

958 children

237 adults

11 settings

The group of parents also worked with Big Wide Talk to document the experience of the children, parents and practitioners who took part, using the mobile edit suite. Overall the experience was described as extremely positive. Here are some of the stories which were produced along with one story 'We can make it happen' which shows the parents' capacity to think about the needs of children and the ways in which these can be addressed via their own endeavour. This group of parents presented this work to parents, practitioners and key decision makers from Bristol in January 2008.
